Vestas is a large manufacturer of wind turbines used to collect energy from naturally occurring wind. The basis for this design is an abstracted pinwheel. The fins of the pinwheel are coloured in an increasingly darker blue, giving the effect of motion. These shades of blue were chosen for their connotations with airiness and cleanliness. The wordmark was created to reconcile the idea of airiness and the sturdiness of a large business. A strong san serif with a slight italic also gives the appearance of vigor and movement. The ‘v’ and the ‘a’ are taken from the angle of the pinwheel’s fin to create a unity between logo and wordmark.
